●A Visit to the Mahathera Kassapa meditation center
Before the sunrise, we set out for “Mahathera Kassapa meditation center”, a temple of overseas Chinese from Myanmar. It is located on a mountain top at Sanxia Dist., New Taipei City. It was “Double Ninth Festival”, the day to respect the elders in Myanmar. A lot of overseas Chinese from Myanmar came to join a ceremony to pray for the elders on this day. After the winding mountain road, we arrived at “the Mahathera Kassapa meditation center”. It looked divine. The rays of the morning sun shone from the right eaves, and the light radiating on us was just like trying to purify our spirits. A long flight of stairs along which many statues of Buddha are set up reach the meditation room. Inside the temple, on the left are a kitchen and a dining room, and there is a lobby on the right side. People take a rest and chat at the lobby. Those who want to become a monk or nun has to attend a ceremony here, too. There were a lot of shelves where various kinds of Myanmar and Buddhism books are placed. On the roof, there was a golden pagoda surrounded by eight small pagodas. That was a pagoda of merits and virtues. The meaning of pagodas in Myanmar was like temples in Taiwan. According to the Burmese culture, people pay a formal visit by walking a circle around pagodas.
